afternoon light captured yesterday afternoon at the drawing desk.

I feel like I'm emerging from winter hibernation as the days become warmer and brighter. 

Pulling out some past work that has been gathering dust in storage, and displaying it in the house.

last couple of days has seen me painting outdoors as the weather has been kind. 

after a few experiments on ipad pro ,  played around with positive  and negative shapes, rhythm and balance until I was content with an outcome.

colour was decided upon on the canvas. 

measures approx 60 by 1 metre.

Joined in with the School Strike For Climate yesterday. Quite a moving experience, and impressive to see so many switched - on young people taking action.  This young lady was one of the prime motivators.

Reached the last page of my sketchbook . now to find a new one....

The most recent entries were from our time down at the Mornington Peninsula National Park. It's great fun to painting out there in the elements -  to see the effect of being outside in the fresh air, and its influence on my sketches. As I grow older, I feel my style has become freer as I am less concerned about detail and more interested in trying to portray the immediacy of the moment. The above sketches were rendered at the Fingals Beach area and I tried to keep each sketch to under 10 minutes.

Another 'Big Sky with Sailboat'

Just a small canvas about 40 x 35 cm. 

This one a departure in my usual quiet colour palette. 

Green, lime green, cool yellow,  pale blue and dark maroon.....

colours that you can see in a cloud if you look closely, but in reality, are very pale -

 mine are intensified. 

Renovation on an old frame I had made some 20 years back. 

This was constructed of cardboard , twine, split peas, flour and water paste, and then buffed up with rub 'n' buff  in european gold. 

A hollow construction, and a lightweight frame, it houses a collage , which is a departure to my usual style, due to the change in technique and  materials.

Cape Schanck to Bushrangers Bay yesterday. Have not visited the area at this time of the year before, so it was interesting to see it in autumn light. Unusual to say, we didnt see any gulls at all, but many fairy wrens and another small bird of what species I was unsure of. It was quite interested however,  in picking up the tidbits left over from whoever had previously visited our resting place. 

The waves on this beach are unpredictable, but exciting to observe as large varieties appear unexpectedly in the distance, rushing up towards you with extreme fervour. A dangerous beach, and one to be respected. I sat on the rocks and sketched Elephant Rock and again along the way back to Cape Schanck.

looking through my old files this morning for inspiration......found an ipad sketch, would be nice to put this onto canvas, but  'storage space' . What's that? 

Other half and myself sat on the rocks and managed a 20 minute sketch at Saint Kilda foreshore. After 20 minutes, decided we had enough of the glare and the heat so moved on......

woke up thinking of something silly to draw, and this scene came to mind.

Down at Wamoon / Prom country recently for a much anticipated getaway.

The soft sand was my seat as I sat down to observe closely; the many shapes, colors and reflected  tones of the seascape and  wildlife. It is always so gloriously peaceful at Corner Inlet, and not a person to be seen. Only black swans, sea gulls, egrets, snakes and buzzers - all of who politely mind their own business, except for the latter who would not leave me alone! 

Meanwhile, at the Prom Beaches -  a different story. 

Despite seeking shelter behind the boulders, a very strong wind insisted on blowing sand in my face.

The following procedure was necessary:

brace myself, close eyes, continue

Managed to finish unscathed!
